Boats are designed and manufactured with a “mostly” non-porous surface made of fiberglass or aluminum. This also means when water enters the boat, it is trapped. Even with the drain plug removed, water can sit in some areas of the hull with nowhere to go. Water inside of the hull can cause catastrophic, and costly amounts of damage. This could cause structure rot, electrical shorting issues, and be covered mildew before you know it. Vinyl seats are usually constructed in such a way to resist mildew and tears but it is very susceptible to sunlight. The sun can quickly compromise the structural integrity of the vinyl, making it brittle and discolored.
